  • 8 oz cream cheese (for frosting)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two round cake pans with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and sugar.
  3. In another bowl, combine buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla until smooth. Gradually mix into the dry ingredients until just combined.
  4. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  5. Cool the cakes in their pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks. Once cooled, beat cream cheese and powdered sugar together to make the frosting.
  6. Assemble by placing one cake layer on a plate, spreading frosting on top, then adding the second layer. Frost the sides and top as desired.
