Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • For the Cinnamon Filling: 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • For the Frosting: 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease three round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. In another bowl, beat softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well. Gradually add dry ingredients alternately with milk until combined.
  3. For the filling, mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl. Spread softened butter over each batter layer and sprinkle with the cinnamon mixture.
  4. Divide batter among prepared pans and bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  5. For frosting, beat cream cheese until smooth, then gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla.
  6. Once cakes are cool, stack layers with frosting in between and on top.
