  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • For the Cream Cheese Frosting:
  • 8 oz cream cheese, room temperature
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three round cake pans.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugars until fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then add milk.
  3. Gradually mix in flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt until just combined.
  4. In another bowl, combine brown sugar and cinnamon for the filling. Spread some batter in each pan, sprinkle with filling, then top with remaining batter.
  5. Bake for 25–30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
  6. For frosting, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until smooth. Once cakes are cool, layer with frosting between each cake and frost the outside.
