  • 2 medium sweet yellow onions, sliced
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs (plain or Italian)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup low-sodium beef broth
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup grated Gruyère or Swiss cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter and sauté sliced onions until caramelized (about 15-20 minutes). Reserve some for topping.
  3. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, sautéed onions, breadcrumbs, eggs, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix gently to avoid overmixing.
  4. Shape the mixture into a loaf on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Bake for about 1 hour or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (70°C).
